Venice

On a sweltering hot Thursday we took a trip to breathtaking Venice. When I say sweltering I mean it, when the temperature is well into the 30's and your amid the level of crowds that descend on Venice, the city has an average of 50, 000 tourists a day, you feel the heat. This was my third time visiting this unique city, but this time was different, it was my first gondala ride and I got to visit the more residential/ less touristy Lagoon. Some of the main attractions of the city include St Mark's Basilica, the Grand Canal, the Bridge of Sighs, Rialto Bridge and the Piazza San Marco.

The Bridge of Sighs

A word of warning, Venice is the most expensive place I have ever been so be very careful to read menus. Avoid eating very close to the main attractions, check for service charges and have a look at prices of drinks, water for €12 anyone. Buy drinks in the little shops instead of cafes and restaurants. A gondola ride may seem super touristy but I am definitely glad I went for it, sure it's pricey and cheesy but it's instantly what you think of when you think of Venice.

Piazza San Marco

La Bottega dei Mascareri, located at the foot of the Rialto bridge, is the perfect place to buy a souvenir or thoughtful gift as it sells authentic masks for affordable prices. The selection of masks in this tiny story is jaw dropping. These makes have featured in an astonishing selection of publications and events. Purchase a gold leaf, gem encrusted mask to make your bedroom decor one of a kind. Don't forget to check out the photos in the window of some of the famous visitors, such as Sandra Bullock.

Have you been to Venice? What was your favorite part?
