Chocolate and Ghosts in York

Looking a little scared in the haunted house

Despite being in York primarily for work we managed to fit in a little tourist time. York is a beautiful historical city with much to see and do. Famous historical sites include York Minster, York Castle and the cities medieval walls. All very popular with tourists and we gave each a little visit. There's other highly recommended attractions that we didn't get to visit like the dungeons and York maze, but maybe next time. We started our visit to York with a stroll along The Shambles, an ancient street once full of the butchers of York. If your looking for a few old pubs to nib into for a drink, York has loads and we tried out a good few drawn in by their promises of ghosts and haunting. The Golden Fleece is said to be the most haunted pub in York, so be sure to visit there, although I didn't find it creepy at all. Speaking of things that are meant to be haunted, we also visited a Haunted house that sadly closed a few days after we left, it's over 700 years old and was pretty damn scary to walk around. As a huge chocolate addict, I had to, had to, had to visit York's Chocolate Story where we learnt about the origins of chocolate, how to taste it and how York fits into the story of chocolate. There was plenty of samples along the way and we even got to make our own chocolate bar, I'm sure this is really meant for children but I proudly took my bar home with me. I learnt so many chocolate facts to bore everyone I know with whenever I get the chance. So this is just a little taste of what York has to offer, it's a very picturesque city that I would gladly return to and explore more. I've you've visiting York I'd love to know what you got up to there!

  1. I grew up just outside of York so love seeing all your photographs. I went on one of the ghost tours for my 16th birthday - so much fun!
